ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday announced the government would open saving accounts for 5.7 million women along with the provision of mobile phones to them, ARY News reported.
Addressing the launch ceremony of ‘Ehsas’ programme for poverty alleviation in Islamabad, PM Khan said the government was also increasing its spending by Rs 80 billion in underdeveloped areas. “This will increase incrementally and in the next phase, it will be brought to Rs. 120 billion rupees.”
He said that the government was collecting data of the downtrodden from the whole country and said the database of all those institutions working for the welfare of the poor would be compiled and updated by December this year.
He vowed that all such institutions would be unified and brought under a single ministry to streamline the processes.

Imran Khan said the data would help gauge the number of underprivileged people living in the country.
Khan said Ehsas Programme will include the component of Tahaffuz (protection), under which, survey will be conducted for financial assistance of the destitute people.
The prime minister said the first step towards implementation of Ehsas Programme was to amend Article 38-D of the Constitution under which provision of food, clothes, shelter and health will be treated as fundamental rights of the people.
He said that Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal would create 10,000 homes for orphan children in four years whereas 20 new centres would be established for disabled and special persons.
He said that in the next four years, the government would help 3.3 million people whereas Rs 33 billion had been added to the Insaf Insurance scheme.
Khan said the newly-launched ‘Ghurbat Mitao Programme’ was the first step on the path of humanity.
He said that help will also be provided to stunted children street children, gipsy children, transgender and bonded labour through public-private partnership.
He said health programme was also being launched to provide health cover to 3 million people in 38 districts.
Khan said the stipend of the poor women was being increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5500.
He underlined that it was a crusade to rise for ridding society of poverty to the core. He announced that the government would also extend legal help to the needy under its new ‘Tahaffuz Programme’.
He said every policy devised by China envisaged eradication of poverty. He was of the view that the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah envisioned Pakistan as an Islamic welfare state.
The prime minister said 500 digital hubs were being created in different tehsils of the country.
