ISLAMABAD: Federal Government of Pakistan withdrew in its petition from Supreme Court, filed against the restoration of Zaka Ashraf as Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), ARY News reports on Friday.
A division bench comprising of Justice Saqib Nisar and Justice Aijaz Afzal heard the case in the apex court today.
Asma Jahangir, lawyer representing Ministry for Provincial Coordination, told the court that the federal government is taking back the petition so that the court orders do not get violated and a standoff takes place between the government and the judiciary.
She added that the ministry does have the power to change the chairman of the cricket board.
SCP restored the decision made by IHC and remarked that the federal government should change the chairman if it has the power to do so. The court further said that Zaka Ashraf was restored by a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) and no one can stop the government from exercising its powers.
