KARACHI: A minor boy and a sacrificial animal were on Monday electrocuted in Karachi in separate incidents after the city received its first rain spell of the monsoon season, ARY NEWS reported.
According to details, a 14-year-old boy died after being electrocuted in the Alfalah Society near the Malir Halt area of the city. He was identified as Ammad and was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
In a separate incident, a sacrificial animal tied to an electric pole in the Millat Town area of Malir was electrocuted. The owner of the animal immediately slaughtered him.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is not the first time that incidents of electrocution have been reported in the city during a rain spell.
On March 27, a session court in Karachi directed the K-Electric, the sole power distributor in Karachi, to pay an Rs15 million fine in a case that involves a 12-year-old child who was electrocuted in Karachi during 2013 rain.
According to details, on 26 November 2013, 12-year-old Safeer got electrocuted in an incident that also involves the death of a man identified as Arif.
While giving its verdict, the court ordered that the negligence of the sole power supplier in the city has been proved in the case as besides providing the power it was also responsible to repair the electric wires.
“The K-Electric should pay a fine of Rs15 million to the aggrieved party,” it said. Further, the court remarked that the broken and open wires could prove harmful to human lives and directed the power utility to rectify the issues.
