PM will address reservations regarding Women Protection Act: Fazlur Rehman

According to details, Maulana Fazlur Rehman disclosed Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had formed a committee to amend the provisions of the law.

Jamaat-e-Ulema Islami chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Miniser Shahbaz Sharif at Jati Umra. Rehman disclosed to media personnel that the Punjab CM had provided him with the assurance that thebill which had been passed by the assembly, would be amended. Rehman further said that the Prime Minister was apprised regarding the apprehensions that religious parties had towards the Women’s Protection Bill.

In response to a question, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that further plan of action will be decided in a sit-down with the heads of religious parties in Mansehra.

The Protection of Women Against Violence Act has been passed in order to empower women with more rights, with reference to domestic abuse in particular. Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been on the forefront against the bill. Maulana Fazlur Rehman had also announced that he would start a campaign to demand for the rights of husbands, in protest of the bill.
