KARACHI: Masses seek from the government to right away subdue the inflation as vegetable and fruit prices have skyrocketed across the country.
Hike in petroleum product cost is believed to have played catalyst for the rise in the prices of veggies and fruits. The government upped petroleum products cost on the eve of new year by rupees 4.6 to 6.7.
Amid this price hike on petroleum products retailers are charging their desired amount from customers. Okra is being sold in Lahore for Rs150 a kilo, while green chilli’s cost has gone up to Rs100 a kilo.
Fruits are also not available at the cost set by the local administration.
The merchants have to say that the rate list set by the administration was not correct and impossible to follow as they were getting edibles from wholesalers on higher prices.
cost of okra, or as many people call it ladies’ finger, has climbed up to Rs200 a kg in Multan.
Bitter gourd (karela), okra and ridged gourd (turai) are being sold in Sukker for up to Rs160 a kg.
