According to ARY News reporter Anwar Khan, two people have passed away due to the prevailing heat in the city. One of the deceased was identified as Mohammad Ashfaq whereas the second person to have passed away was a female, hailing from the area of Ranchore Line.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecasted hot weather for Karachi from 22nd to 25th April 2017.
“Due to a high pressure cell, the winds will take turn from southwesterly to northwesterly gradually which will bring hot and dry air mass to Karachi and other coastal areas cutting the sea breeze,” the weather department stated.
PMD added, “Day temperatures will gradually increase on Friday from 38C to 40C on Sunday and then it will start decreasing attaining the normal level on Wednesday. Winds will start blowing from the sea restoring the sea breeze.”
The meteorological department had advised the citizens to stay under the shed during the day time and use maximum amount of water.
Heatwave along with prolonged hours of power outages in the metropolis had claimed hundreds of lives last years. The provincial government along with the city’s power distribution company K-Electric came under the criticism of the citizens over the deaths.
