“Can’t afford post-retirement life at home,” says ailing 73-year-old bike rider

KARACHI: In this reeling economy, where even the elderly cannot afford the luxury of living their old-age disengaged from financial difficulties, a PIA retiree, Shiekh Nizam Uddin, 73, is a man of integrity, who prefers making a living by working in a ride-hailing service, too grueling for a septuagenarian, over depending on help from anyone.

However, there’s nothing to romanticize here with the life of the bike rider with a dysfunctional arm and an injured backbone, caused by his accidental fall from the tail of a plane, where he worked as a pantryman in most of the prime of his life.

Hear, from the father of three struggling children, his lifestory and travails here.
