ISLAMABAD: A ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to commemorate the 141st birth anniversary of national poet and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal on Friday.
The officers and staff members of the high commission offered Quran Khawani for the esal-e-sawab of the soul of Iqbal. The messages of President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan were read out on this occasion.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood said Iqbal was an epoch-making personality, who helped turn the tide of history in the sub-continent.

Paying rich tributes to the Hakeem-ul-Ummat, the high commissioner highlighted myriad dimensions of Iqbal’s life, philosophy, poetic excellence, and political foresight. Iqbal’s life and achievements, he said, presented a shining example of cohesive thought and action.
He said that Iqbal possessed remarkable knowledge of the Islamic religious and political thought and had a deep understanding of the Western philosophy and civilization.
“Iqbal’s concepts like Khudi (self) and Shaheen (Eagle) had universal value and remained an inspiration for the generations to come. The nation would remain eternally grateful to Iqbal for being the Musavir-e-Pakistan,” he said.
Sohail Mahmood concluded that, on this auspicious day, the best tribute to Iqbal was to follow his message in letter and spirit, recommit ourselves to fulfilling his mission, and reaffirm the resolve to build Pakistan in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
Earlier in separate messages, Dr Arif Alvi and Imran Khan urged the youth to understand the message of Muhammad Iqbal.
The president in his message on the eve, has underlined the need of understanding the message of Iqbal and following his teachings and philosophy to tackle the multifaceted challenges faced by the country.
“The need to understand his message and following his teachings and philosophy was never as great as it is today” he continued in his message.
Khan has advised youth to follow footprints of the thinker of Pakistan.
He said that Muhammad Iqbal would always be remembered not only for envisioning a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Sub Continent but also for his remarkable contributions to understanding the true message of our religion.
