ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the provinces had not yet submitted their response on the interpretation of the law against harassment at workplace, ARY News reported.

The case was heard by a three-member SC bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh.

Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment, Kashmala Tariq said the biggest issue on interpretation of the law was 18th amendment provisions.

Justice Mushir Alam replied: “You were also a part of the process of enacting the 18th amendment, and its Article-10 also guarantees the right to fair trial.”

Kashmala Tariq responded that she didn’t vote for the amendment. She requested the court to deliver case verdict on March 8 as it was International Day of Women. However Justice Azmat Saeed said the court was fixing March 11 as the date for giving its verdict on the case.

“If somebody wants to furnish argument in the case, they could make it on March 11,” the bench remarked.

In the last hearing on Feb 13, the Supreme Court had directed authorities to strengthen the law against harassment on workplaces to protect the rights of women.

The court also sought replies from attorney general and provincial governments about interpretation of law on the matter. “This is an issue of extreme importance,” Justice Azmat Saeed Khosa had said.
