The polls are taking place on 8,235 reserved seats of 1647 union committees and union councils, for which 9,882 elected officials will cast a secret ballot to choose the representatives.
A union committee has two seats reserved for women and one seat each is reserved for youth, labourer, farmer and minority member.
There are 1175 union councils and 560 union committees across the province, according to sources. More than 2000 candidates have been elected unopposed on reserved seats.
The polling on reserved seats of another 88 union committees will be held May 24.
