According to the Agreement on Consular Access signed between Pakistan and India on 21 May 2008, both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on 1 January and 1 July, respectively, said a statement issued from the Foreign Office.
A similar list of 278 Pakistani prisoners (251 civil + 27 fishermen) lodged in Indian jails was also handed over to the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi.
