Pakistan, Tajikistan agree to intensify cooperation in various sectors

BEIJING:  Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Friday met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, China.

According to a statement released from his office, both the leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in diverse fields, including trade, energy, infrastructure and development.

They discussed energy cooperation and exchanged views on political relations, high level exchanges, trade and economic interaction and regional situation, read the statement.

On the occasion, Prime minister Imran Khan reiterated that Pakistan attached great importance to its ties with Tajikistan. He said that Pakistan wanted closer ties and enhanced collaboration with Tajikistan in diverse fields.

Both the leader reviewed the progress of CASA-1000 project and resolved to ensure its timely completion.

Earlier, Islamabad and Ashgabat, on March 12, had decided to form a Joint Working Group (JWG) for finalising laying of a power transmission line from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan.

The announcement had been made by the Ministry of Energy, Power Division (MoWP) that had confirmed the formation of a working group for the power transmission project between the two countries.

The decision had been taken during a high-level meeting held between former minister for power Omar Ayub Khan and Turkmenistan delegation jointly headed by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Energy Minister Döwran Rejepow.
