ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and party’s candidate for upcoming presidential elections Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday said that the opposition’s failure to nominate a single candidate for presidential polls will only benefit the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported.
Speaking to media outside Islamabad High Court, the PPP leader said that he wasn’t present in the party meeting which unaminously nominated him as candidate for president and will not object if the leadership takes his name back.
“I never thought Pervaiz Rasheed will object upon my nomination and his demand, of apologising to Nawaz Sharif, too is feudalistic,” said Ahsan.
He, however, added that some PML-N leaders have termed it Pervaiz Rasheed’s personal statement.
It is pertinent to note here that the “joint opposition” once again failed to nominate a joint candidate for presidential elections as PPP decided to stick with Aitzaz Ahsan’s name while PML-N and other parties nominated JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman as their “joint candidate” for the post.
