LAHORE: Directing for immediate steps to ensure cleanliness in all cities of the province, Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development Abdul Aleem Khan on Saturday said special teams will be constituted to collect waste in 24 hours.
He directed the concerned authorities to make sure that waste from Lahore and other cities of Punjab was dumped at the land fill sites in 24 hours.
The senior minister has given directions to the managing director of Solid Waste Management that in each union council waste containers should be cleared and special teams be constituted to supervise cleanliness work.

He said that because of special circumstances there were hurdles to carry out this waste for the last two days which resulted in big mess in different areas but now situation was normal and there should be no delay in catering waste collection activities.
Abdul Aleem also directed that apart from Lahore special steps should be taken in other cities of Punjab as well and report should be submitted to him in this regard. He further said that waste management has become chronic issue in different cities and special steps had been taken for Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan where collection work had been started on modern lines while in the first phase a piece of area was being acquired for landfill site in Gujranwala. He told that after this, steps would be initiated in Faisalabad and Multan.
The minister also appealed the masses to cooperate in ensuring proper and timely cleanliness for which no one should spread garbage and ensure to dispose of their waste in proper bags and at fixed containers.
