Over a thousand lives have been lost in Karachi during the past five days of an unrelenting heatwave. Every day brings with it the tragic news of hundreds of deaths -- deaths that could have been avoided if the city was better governed, had a reliable and constant supply of electricity and its residents had ready access to abundant supplies of clean drinking water.
We have lost over 750 of our compatriots in last few days-The heatwave deaths in Karachi and other cities of Sindh. The lives of most of them could have been saved if we had an efficient healthcare system and public health awareness campaigns to educate the citizens what to do in case of sunstroke , which is a common health concern in searing summers in our part of the world.
