Instagram comments are getting more like Facebook. Kevin Systrom, co-founder and CEO unveiled several new features in a blog post on Tuesday.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, is bringing changes to the comments section, which includes the ability to turn off comments on specific posts, and to like comments.

The changes also include the ability to remove followers from private accounts without blocking them, and to anonymously report accounts on self-harm and injury.

Systrom said that while comments are largely positive, they are not always welcomed. Therefore, these steps are necessary to give more control over the comment section.

The app previously gave the ability to filter comments based on keywords. However, there are two more features which are now being added to the comments sections.

Ability to Like Comments

Instagram is also adding the ability to like comments by introducing a heart icon next to any comment. “Liking lets you show support and encourages positivity throughout the community,” Systrom said.

Remove followers from private accounts

Some people on Instagram have a private account, which means they must approve each follower. Previously, there was no way to remove a follower from a private account without blocking them.

Now, Instagram allows to to remove followers from your private account easily. Simply go to your list of followers and click the menu next to your followers.  The person will also not be notified that you have removed them as a follower.

Report self-injury post anonymously

Kevin Systrom said that Instagram will continue to be a place where people can share personal moments. However, if you see a friend in distress or need of moral support, and believe they may harm themselves then you can report it anonymously.

Instagram will then connect your friend to organizations which can offer help and have teams around the clock worldwide to review these reports.

All of the changes are starting to roll out as of Tuesday, but Instagram said it should take a couple weeks to show up to everyone.

Systrom said that they are committed to keep Instagram to keep a positive place for self-expression and  will continue to work to maintain it as a welcoming and safe place for everyone
