Star Trek fans can relive the interstellar adventures of Captain James T. Kirk and his crew aboard the starship USS Enterprise built by the interstellar federal republic United Federation of Planets in the twenty-third century.

The virtual reality action-adventure game Star Trek: Bridge Crew, developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, is now available on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive.

The game throws players into the Star Trek universe, taking on the role of a Starfleet officer either co-operatively online or with a crew of chums (with players assigned the role of Captain, Engineer, Helm and Tactical roles).

Apart from the full-story campaign, Star Trek: Bridge Crew also random missions all allowing for endless hours of solo or co-op adventures aboard the USS Aegis or the legendary USS Enterprise NCC-1701, authentically recreated from Star Trek: The Original Series.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew was built for VR, and uses the medium’s powerful sense of social presence – hand tracking, full-body avatars, and real-time lip-sync – making for an experience that ranges between the tense and the hilarious.

The game’s co-op mode is also fully cross-platform, meaning crew-mates can be on any of the three supported VR platforms (PSVR, Occulus Rift or HTC Vive).

During an experimental beta period, the game will also include IBM Watson’s interactive speech and cognitive capabilities, allowing players to use natural-language voice commands to interact with their virtual crewmates.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew received positive reviews and has a score of 75 percent on Metacritic.

GamesRadar+ giving the game four out of five, hailing the game as “heaps of fun” and describing it as “one of the most entertaining, faithful and unique simulations of any entertainment franchise ever.”

PlayStation Universe gave it eight out of ten and said, Perhaps more unexpected than somebody coming out with a decent Star Trek title in 2017 however, is that the same game ended up being one of the most intriguing and entertaining multiplayer experiences to come along this year.”

“Best enjoyed with friends, Bridge Crew is not just one of the most enjoyable and polished Star Trek titles to date, but also a real feather in the cap for PSVR,” it added.
