ISLAMABAD: As the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif concluded the parliamentary party meeting, the lower house lawmakers of opposition parties restated the earlier demand of PM’s resignation on Friday in wake of Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s report submission, ARY News reported.
Opposition leader Khursheed Shah held a meeting of parliamentary leaders of opposition parties at the chamber of opposition leader in the National Assembly to cook up a joint strategy pertaining to the premier’s resignation demand.
Talking to media, Shah said the opposition parties are united in their demand and the premier must resign by fulfilling his promise made to the entire nation earlier.
He said the opposition parties do not want to derail democracy in the country and the demand for resignation is being made against a corrupt leader for his wrongdoings.
Shah said there would be no damage to the system if the premier leaves the office, adding that the opposition has no reservation if Nawaz Sharif appoints a prime minister by tendering his resignation.
“The Panamagate investigation findings are more than enough to demand Sharif to step down,” he added.
He vowed support to judiciary and said that the opposition would stand by the Supreme Court with whatever decision it makes in the case.
Joining in the conversation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said all opposition members have given their signatures to Shah for submission of a requisition to summon a national assembly session whenever he deems fit.
Dispelling a notion that the move is against one political party, the PTI leader made it clear that it’s against the corrupt elements in the country.
“We respect sensible politicians within the PML-N who are also internally cautioning the premier,” he claimed.
On the occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq called for accountability of all. “No one should be above the law,” he added.
Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed remarked that the demand which opposition is making is for preserving the democracy in the country.
Furthermore, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar and Qaumi Watan Party chief Aftab Sherpao in their conversation with media, reiterated the opposition’s decision to support democracy.
