KARACHI: The Sindh Rangers claimed to have unearthed a gang of criminals including cops, involved in illegal trade of arms and forging fake licences of arms.
A Rangers spokesperson said the paramilitary troops initially nabbed a man on suspicion of his involvement in the illegal purchase and sale of arms and forging arms licences for the purpose.
During interrogation, the suspect identified as Faizan Khan confessed to the crime, saying that a gang of some eight men has been involved in the illegal trade.
Following the lead provided by the held suspect, the Rangers personnel arrested seven more suspects, including Umardaraz Khan, a sub-inspector of the Sindh Reserve Police, constable Syed Nadir Ali Shah, and Syed Shahid Shah, a constable in the special branch, in a targeted raid carried out in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area.
Other suspects included in the gang were identified as Junaid, Zohair Kamal, Saddam Siddiqui and Kamran, a target killer affiliated with a political party.
The spokesman said that 131 stamps, two G3 rifles, 18 magazines, 140 fake licences of weapons have been recovered from the possession of the suspects.
The paramilitary force has also recovered 233 forged documents, 75 certificates and seven fake driving licences from the possession of the arrested men, he added.
