HYDERABAD: An anti-harassment cell established in the University of Sindh to assure female students of protection against harassment, has been closed by the university administration.
Female students of Mehran University, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and University of Sindh expressed concerns over the closure of the anti-harassment cell.
The anti-harassment cell was established after the suicide of Naila Rind, a Sindh University student who had allegedly committed suicide following exploitation and blackmailing.
Rind’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in SU’s Marvi Hostel in Jamshoro on January 1, 2017. She was a final-year student of the Sindhi department.

Earlier, in the light of a report submitted by an inquiry committee, Punjab government had suspended two medical college officials over their “negligence” in a sexual harassment case at a Rahim Yar Khan hospital on September 23, last year.
According to details, Secretary Health Punjab had suspended Principal Shaikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan and Medical Superintendent Shaikh Zayed Hospital for their incompetence after an incident of sexual assault on a lady doctor took place in the hospital’s premises.
