ISLAMABAD: A three-day countrywide anti-polio campaign has launched today (Monday) in various districts of all provinces of the country, ARY News reported.
Sources of provincial health departments told state radio that six million children up to five years of age in Khyber Pakthunkhwa will be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign and over one million children under age of five would be immunized in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) against the polio decease.
In 36 districts of Punjab province, 18.7 million children of under five years of age will be given anti-polio drops. Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan has said that the department has constituted over 44,000 teams in the province which including mobile, fixed, and transit teams. The campaign will be held in all 36 districts of Punjab. After the three day campaign, catch up activity for children missed during the campaign, will continue, the official said.
Around one million children in 19 districts of Balochistan along with 15 union councils of Quetta, Killa Abdullah, and Pishin districts, will be administered anti-polio drops during the immunization drive.
The anti-polio campaign would also ensure polio immunization to 2.2 million children in eight districts of Sindh including Karachi.
The polio vaccination teams will also present at railway stations, bus stands and public places to ensure administering anti-polio drops to every child. Special security measures have been taken to ensure protection of polio vaccination teams.
