Court refuses to hear Musharraf’s lawyers

The court hearing was chaired by Justice Mazhar Alam Mian Khel. The justice censured Joint Secretary of Interior Ministry Dilshad Ahmed and issued him show cause notice for not presenting details of Musharraf’s all properties and assets.

Dilshad Ahmed adopted the stance that he had received copy of the court order the last day which he had sent to FIA.

The court expressed anger that the the order was issued two months back and the interior ministry, who is complainant in this case, itself was not serious in that matter.

“Are judges this free that they come from Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar to hear this case in vain? The ministry should give clarification because action will be taken against the responsible person under military Act 06,” said Mazhar Mian.

The court also made it clear to the Musharraf’s lawyers, Faisal Chaudhry and Ahmed Raza Qasuri, that it will not hear them because of Musharraf’s not appearing before the court.

“Who are you here to defend, when Musharraf himself is not present despite giving advertisements in newspapers?” said the justice.

Ahmed Raza Qasuri said the case had been under trial for a long time and today details of Musharraf’s properties were going to be present. He said the court should issue a written order otherwise they would keep defending their client.

Musharraf was formally charged in March 2014 with treason for imposing emergency and the Provisional Constitutional Order on November 3, 2007.

The Federal Investigation Agency official had on May 11 informed that Musharraf was abroad hence could not appear before the court.

The Special Court in November 2015 had ordered re-investigation into the Musharraf treason trial case and also ordered that ex-prime minister Shaukat Aziz and former chief justice of pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar be also investigated.
