Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’ has constantly been facing confrontation in the form of threats and violence from fringe groups of Rajasthan and the opposition is getting intensified as the release date draws near.

Earlier this year, a fringe group Rajput Karni Sena disrupted shooting of the movie in Jaipur and assaulted the film director. A few days ago, the same group called for a countrywide bandh on the day of release of the film, December 1. While another Rajput group had threatened to burn the cinemas screening the movie.

Now, Kerni Sena has gone an extra mile from protesting to threatening actress Deepika Padukone who plays the protagonist in the movie ‘Padmavati’ D

The film is based on an old poem and scholars say that there is no record of such a queen in history, while some Hindu extremist groups allege  the film Padmavati of ‘distorting the history’.

Members of a Brahmin outfit, Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha registered their protest against Padmavati in Jaipur by giving signatures with blood to be sent to the Central Board of Film Certification.

While, Karni Sena said, “We will gather in lakhs, our ancestors wrote history with blood we will not let anyone blacken it; will call for Bharat bandh on 1 December.”

A leader of the Rajput group in a self-made video said, “Rajputs never raise a hand on women but if need be, we will do to Deepika what Lakshman did to Shurpanakha.”

A historical character Lakshman had chopped off nose of Shurpanakha with his sword.
