DUBAI: Young bowlers rattled Islamabad United batting line-up with blazing spell to claim first victory for Peshawar Zalmi in their second Twenty20 match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Zalmi won by 34 runs.

United were 61 for 6 in 10 overs, with two boundaries in the 10th over yet the challenge was huge for them with only four wickets in hand and their defeat seemed inevitable from that point, while chasing 177.

PSL debutant Umaid Asif ripped apart the United top order with 4 for 23, two in the first over. Then came in Ibtisam Sheikh, another young gun, to finish rest of the job with 4 for 20. Umaid bagged Man of the Match award.

Faheem Ashraf was dropped by Tamim Iqbal at 3. There he continued his journey to the unbeaten highest total for his team to 54 off 30. While Samit Patel managed to accumulate 23.

Here’s how Ibtisam Sheikh inflicted damage upon United:

Peshawar Zalmi gave 177 runs target to Islamabad United to chase, at the cost of 6 wickets. Opening batsmen, Kamran Akmal (53) and Tamim Iqbal (39)’s fiery knocks drove their team to the imposing total, after stand-in Islamabad United skipper Rumman Raees won the toss and opted to field first against Zalmi.

Dwayne Smith and Mohammad Hafeez made 30 each.

Faheem Ashraf took two scalps for United, while Mohammad Sami, Rumman Raees, Andrew Russel and Samit Patel shared one wicket apiece.

Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, are champions of two previous seasons of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

In absence of Misbah-ul-Haq owing to a hamstring injury, United were led by fast bowler Rumman Raees.

“This track is very good for bowling, which is why we have decided to bowl first,” Raees had said after winning the toss.

“We wanted to bat first so I am quite happy, ” said Zalmi’s captain Darren Sammy. “We need to assess the conditions quickly and put a big total,” he added while talking after toss.
