KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Monday said for the first time transgender persons will be given employment in Sindh Police, ARY News reported.
In a statement, the Sindh IGP said measures would be taken to provide employments to minority community as well.
He said quota for special persons was being restored in police department.
“Soon necessary departmental measures will be taken in this regard,” he said.
Syed Kaleem Imam said efforts were being made to modernise policing.
In September last year, in a commendable initiative to mainstream the transgender community, the then chief justice of Pakistan had announced that two transgender persons would be given employment in the Supreme Court.

During the hearing of a case pertaining to the rights of transgender community, Saqib Nisar had said that the judiciary wanted to incorporate transgender people into the nation as an accepted and ordinary person.
“It is our first priority to give transgender community their due rights,” the top judge stated lamenting that transgender were ridiculed in our society.
The Lahore High Court had also written in September to the Punjab government and Secretary Health to construct separate wards for transgender in hospitals.
The high court had observed that this move would cater the privacy of transgender.
