Affected villagers and growers said that standing crops, houses along with valuables, as well as stocks of grains were washed away by the flooding that also rendered them homeless. They claimed millions of rupees losses in the breach.
Local people complained absence of the government support for the victims who suffered huge losses due to the breach in Nusrat Canal. The people moved from the inundated area to safer places without any official support, they said.
Indus River water is swelling at Guddu Barrage with addition of 10,000 cusecs, the water flow at upstream of the barrage was recorded 3,25,848 cusecs and at downstream the flow gauged at 2,97,028 cusecs.
Local administration in an alert advised the people living in the low-lying areas of Kandhkot and Kashmore to move to safer places. The provincial government, however, failed to provide shelters to the people of the vulnerable areas.
The authorities had declared six dykes on the Indus from Guddu to Kashmore and Shikarpur as vulnerable to the ravages of the flood flow.
The work started on the sensitive portions of dykes still said to be incomplete.
Local people alleged that the funds released to carry out the dyke strengthening, lining and channel cleaning work were misappropriated by the officials.
