ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s assistant on Accountability, Shahzad Akbar, said on Monday that two leaders Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari collaborated in corruption and ‘looted’ national wealth, ARY News reported.

Speaking in the ARY News programme, Akbar said rulers from two parties built an empire out of their ill-gotten money.

He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) looted public money by covertly working together.

He disclosed that Rs 1.25 billion were transferred to account of Suleman Shehbaz, son of Shehbaz Sharif.

He said an official of bank was mostly involved in money laundering practices. “The government is also going after them,” he added.

Shahzad Akbar said a company, through which transactions were made, has also the records, which could be obtained.

The PM’s adviser said no statement had yet been submitted by the family of Shehbaz Sharif over assets inquiry by the NAB. The lawyer claims that Shehbaz had already declared all his assets.

He said Salman Shehbaz and Ali Salman left the country soon after an inquiry was initiated over money laundering.

Akbar said the enforcement of laws of money laundering dated back to 2007, and all such cases would be treated accordingly.

He was of the view that ‘institutions were held hostage’ after fake transactions of Rs 1.2 billion.

He also named two individuals – Fazal Dad and Qasim Qayyum – who helped the Sharifs transfer money through illegal channels.
