President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday issued the Electoral Rules Amendment Ordinance and Delimitations Amendment Ordinance as per which, the tasks of delimitations and preparation of lists for local body elections have been assigned to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The local government system to empower people at the grassroots level was introduced during the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf but it lapsed after his 2008 exit from power and restoration of democracy.
