Development not possible without democracy, says PM Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday said development in the country was only possible when there was democracy.

“No force other than democracy can deliver in the country and we will have to work hard to strengthen democracy in the country,” he said speaking after inauguration of oil and gas well project Jhandial-one at Jhandial in Attock on Friday.

He said development projects had been completed in all sectors including economy, infrastructure and energy in all parts of the country.

The prime minister said during the last four years more than 10,000 megawatt energy had been included in the national grid.

He said that 103 discoveries had been made in the oil and gas sectors during the last four years. He said similarly 850 million cubic feet gas that was 22 percent of the total gas production had been added in the system during the tenure of the present government.

“All the sectors are being provided uninterrupted gas supply twenty four hours a day,” he claimed.

He said that unparalleled development projects have been completed during the tenure of the present government in all sectors.

The PM said the project would open new avenues of progress and development in the region by boosting business and creating new job opportunities.

He announced gas supply schemes for all the areas of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said after completion of the power projects Pakistan would become self-sufficient in that sector and would bring prosperity and development in the country.

Earlier, the PM was briefed on the occasion about the salient features of the project.

This is one of the largest oil and gas discovery in the area struck by Pakistan Oil Fields Limited.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad, Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir, Minister of State Jam Kamal were also present on the occasion.

Talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association in Islamabad, Prime Minister has reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue creating conducive environment for enhancing business sector.

He said growth in exports would not only help in reducing trade deficit but also increase employment opportunities.

On the occasion, the delegation lauded government’s efforts for enhancing the export package aimed at facilitating exporters.
