ISLAMABAD: Volunteers launched a seeds ball campaign titled “Throw and Grow” at Margalla Hills in Islamabad on Sunday to promote culture of planting trees with internationally recognized easy methods in the country.
The campaign was launched in collaboration with Islamabad Wildlife Management Board.
A seed ball, also known as earth balls or seed bomb, consists of a variety of different seeds rolled within a ball of clay, preferably volcanic pyroclastic red clay. Several additives may be included, such as humus or compost. The seeds are generally ‘pre-planted’ and can be sown by depositing the seed ball anywhere suitable for the species, keeping the seed safely until the proper germination window arises.

Managing Director of a foreign company, Tasaddaq Malik said that they had so far prepared 15,000-20,000 seed balls to be sold to the visitors of Margalla Hills at nominal price, Radio Pakistan reported.
He said the campaign received encouraging response as a number of people from various walks of life including civil society, media, business and families living near the trails of Margalla Hills participated in the campaign.
Tasaddaq said the campaign was aimed at promoting seeds ball scheme in the country as it was considered to be instrumental for rapid plantation and was being followed in many countries.
