KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali on Monday visited Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan who had come under an armed attack on the first day of Eidul Azha.
Speaking to media during the visit of the residence of Khawaja Izhar, the chief minister condemned the attack on the MQM leader and said efforts were underway to arrest those behind it. He added he was sad over the killing of a policeman and child in the incident.
Shah said despite manpower constraints, MQM leaders have been provided more security. “I have talked to Khawaja Izharul Hassan and if he needed more security, he would be provided.”
He said they all have to make a joint effort to root out terrorism from the soil. It was a terrorist attack and those who attack masques should be given dreadful punishment, he added
Khawaja Izharul Hassan thanked the chief minister for visiting him after the attack. He hoped those behind the attack will be brought to book. This attack was a part of terrorism plaguing the entire country, he added.
On Saturday, MQM-P lawmaker Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan escaped an assassination attempt, but his security guard and a passer-by lost their lives in the attack.
Hassan had said the attackers were wearing helmets and putting on the police uniforms.
One of the assailants was killed in an exchange of fire but other three managed to escape, police said. A teenager, said to be 14-year-old, lost his life alongside Hasan’s security guard, a police constable.
