KARACHI: A fire that had erupted in a superstore near EOBI House on Shahrah-e-Faisal on Thursday morning has been doused, ARY News reported.
The fire was put off after frantic efforts by over eight hours, while the cooling process is currently underway. The fire broke out in the basement and spread in the store located inside a shopping plaza.
Deputy Commissioner East Ahmed said that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. He confirmed that fire occurred in the basement and storage section of the superstore.
The fire spread quickly and engulfed the entire superstore. Seven fire tenders and two other belonging to the Pakistan Navy took part in the operation to douse the fire.
Fire brigade officers said there were were no safety arrangements the shopping plaza to douse the fire, which caused the fire to spread quickly and created immense hurdles in rescue operations.
Furthermore, water tankers were also called to cope up with the shortage of water.Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Sajid Javed has said that that the Fire Department and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) coordinated to put off the fire.
Yesterday, a fire erupted at clothing factory located near the Saba Cinema in New Karachi. The third-degree fire was put off after several hours.
Fire tenders and snorkels were called and an emergency was declared at the Sakhi Hasan and NIPA hydrants. Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar was also present to oversee the rescue efforts.
