ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau has reportedly decided to arrest four member of the family of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif upon their return to the country.
Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law retired Captain Safdar are currently in London, and have not appeared despite being summoned by an accountability court.
However, NAB sources informed that the anti-graft watchdog is considering arresting the Sharif family members from the airport upon arrival and presenting them in court. The court has directed NAB to ensure they appear in the next summon on October 9.
The court has already issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Hussain and Hassan Nawaz and Captain Safdar and bailable warrants for Maryam Nawaz after they failed to appear despite being summoned twice.
Therefore, it has been decided to arrest them from the airport as they return to the country. In case they do not appear for the third summon on October 9, all four family members will be declared as absconders.
Nawaz Sharif made his second appearance in the accountability court on October 2, but the indictment in the corruption reference cases was deferred till October 9.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has already been indicted in the reference against him for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.
