Zartaj Gul calls for creating awareness about forests

RAWALPINDI: State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul said media was the only channel that could help spread information to any part of the world, ARY News reported.

Giving an address in the Barani Institute of Information and Technology, Gul said the World Forest Day held an immense importance and it was vital to share it with people.

The minister said we have qualified professors with treasure of knowledge. “We need to create awareness about forests.”

She warned that a large number of people would migrate from Muzzafargarh and Bhawalpur due to water scarcity. She said water companies were also extracting huge amount of water for their own financial check. There was no check on water wastage and pilfering, she added.

The minister said it was alarming that ground water level has now reached 1200ft.

Zartaj Gul slammed the previous governments for constructing underpasses but failing to resolve lingering traffic issues.

She also later planted saplings at the university.

In her statement a few weeks ago, Zartaj Gul had said under the austerity campaign initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, her ministry saved 30 million rupees in three months’ time. She said no new vehicle was purchased by her ministry, nor any foreign visits were made.

She said solid waste management system had been made in 16 hospitals. She said a ban had been imposed on burning of crop remains in order to overcome the issue of smog.
