KARACHI: The police have booked a number of people, including FixIt campaigners, for allegedly obstructing the movement of President Arif Alvi’s security protocol in Karachi, ARY News reported.
As per details, two separate cases have been registered at different police stations on complaints lodged by traffic police officers.
The Shahrah-e-Faisal police registered an FIR, accusing an unnamed citizen not only of obstructing the president’s convoy on Shahra-e-Faisal on Saturday night, but also prompting other citizens to not stop their vehicles to give the way to it.
The man allegedly manhandled police personnel deployed for the president’s security and removed security barriers placed on the road.
Another FIR was registered at the Tipu Sultan police station against FixIt campaigners under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) provisions that stipulate punishment for obstructing officials in the discharge of their duties and instigating citizens.
The police said some people wearing shirts inscribed with ‘FixIt’ forcefully opened the road which was closed to the traffic to ensure uninterrupted movement of President Arif Alvi’s convoy.
Earlier, President Arif Alvi had come in for a lot flak when a video emerged on the social media, showing him leaving Karachi airport in a motorcade of over two dozen vehicles.
Subsequently, the president took to Twitter to clarify his position over the extensive security protocol.
He said: “The long chain of official cars following me is despite the fact that I asked all officials present at the airport not to embarrass me with a huge protocol & that 1 or 2 cars in front and 1 or 2 cars behind may satisfy their security needs. Did not happen. We have to try harder.”
