LAHORE: Former ruling party Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a resolution, in Punjab Assembly, demanding the creation of Bhawalpur province.
As per details, PML-N leader Hina Pervaiz Butt on Wednesday called for carving of Bhawalpur province along with the creation of South Punjab province.
The resolution said if the government was serious about the creation of new provinces then it should also accept the Bhawalpur province.
The establishment of new provinces will help in the distribution of resources and authority on the basis of equality, it added.
It is pertinent to mention that the incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf wants to create a province of South Punjab.
Earlier today, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi unveiled that the new South Punjab province will comprise Multan and Bahawalpur divisions and it will have 120 seats in the Parliament under Article 106.
He continued that Senate seats will be increased as well after the creation of South Punjab while the new province will have its own high court and chief justice.
Qureshi further elaborated that an amendment in Article 218 would be needed for increasing the number of provinces to five and the government will seek cooperation from other political parties for getting a two-thirds majority in the parliament.
