KARACHI: Sindh Rangers’ special policing powers in the city that were granted for three months in January this year were expired on Friday midnight, ARY News reported.
The provincial government of Sindh had granted special powers to Rangers for 90 days which came into effect on January 16.
The home department had submitted a summary to provincial chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah before expiry of the powers, for another 90-days extension in the paramilitary agency’s policing powers in the city.
The summary is reportedly in pending for approval with the chief minister.
It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial government is protesting over missing of close aides of former president Asif Ali Zardari and political analysts believe that the delay in approval of the summary is part of the protest.
The special powers granted to the paramilitary force to carry out raids, search and arrest suspects under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.
