KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader, Amir Khan, appeared before the Sindh High Court today in a murder case he is facing for more than a decade, ARY News reported.
Khan had filed appeal against his involvement in the murder of the MQM workers.
During the hearing today, the SHC bench granted Khan’s counsel and prosecution time to prepare for the case till December 24.
Amir Khan was sentenced to 10-year term in the murder case of two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in December 2004. Khan was the secretary general of Mohajir Qaumi Movement at that time. An anti-terrorism court had handed sentence to Amir Khan in the murder case.
Three party activists were also given life imprisonment in the case, two of them in absentia.
Judge, who conducted the trial inside the jail, had also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the then Haqiqi leader, Amir Khan, for murder of Anum Aziz and Mohammed Naeem on June 23, 2003, in Landhi during the by elections for NA-255.
According to prosecution, five Haqiqi activists, who included Amir Khan came on a car, while couple of Haqiqi men opened fire on a Hi-roof carrying Muttahida workers. Anum Aziz died instantly and Mohammed Naeem, who was seriously injured, died in hospital after two days.
Amir Khan was given bail in the murder case in August 2009.
