Fruits, vegetables prices hit record high during Ramazan

The prices of fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed, getting out of reach of the common citizens just after the beginning of the Ramazan month, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to the Survey, the price of all vegetables including potatoes, onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chillies, mint, lemon and coriander has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 300 per kg violating price lists issued by the district government price control committee.

On the other hand, the price of fruits including apples, guava, strawberries, Bananas, Oranges, and Watermelon has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 600, respectively.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released the data according to which the inflation was recorded by 1.80 per cent in the first week of Ramadan, while the weekly inflation rate reached 48.35 per cent.

From 20 to 24 March, as many as 26 commodities’ prices have been increased, while the prices of 12 commodities decreased and the prices of 13 goods remained stable.
