ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday summoned Energy Minister Omar Ayub at the Prime Minister house, ARY News reported.

According to well informed sources, the premier will hold important discussion with Energy Minister Omar Ayub regarding finance ministry and other issues, following the announcement by Asad Umar to step down as the finance minister.

Omar is considered to be hot favourite for the post of new Finance minister, the sources added while names of Shaukat Tareen, Hafeez Shaikh, Ishrat Hussain and Shamshad Akhtar are also under consideration.

Earlier in the day, PTI MNA Asad Umar had announced  to step down from his post as finance minister.

Taking on Twitter, Asad Umar broke the news by saying, “As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance.”

“However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe PM Imran Khan is the best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a naya pakistan,” the former minister added.

It may be noted that ARY News had already reported on Monday that Prime Minister Imran Khan was mulling over reshuffling his cabinet in light of the performance of federal ministers, including Finance Minister Asad Umar.
