LAHORE: The lawyers’ protest in Sahiwal, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala continuing their protest for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday (today) to press on their demands for establishment of high court benches in their respective regions.
They are asking for circuit benches to ensure speedy and cheaper justice for the people of their regions.
Infuriated lawyers in Sahiwal, while demanding for a regional bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), torched tyres and staged sit-in. The enraged lawyers also blocked roads for traffic.
The lawyers are also protesting in Faisalabad for their demand about a circuit bench of the high court.
In Sargodha protesting lawyers chanted slogans in support of their demand and locked the registry centre and the offices of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in the city.
Enraged lawyers in Gujranwala locked the election tribunal court in the division.
The protest of lawyers causing hardships for the people visiting courts to attend hearings of their cases.
The lawyers had boycotted the day’s proceedings and closed the gates of courts and stopped petitioners from entering into courts premises.
Earlier, in August , 2017, the lawyers had protested against issuance of arrest warrants against their colleague outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) at Mall Road.
Enraged lawyers had pelted stones at the personnel of anti-riot police unit during the protest, forcing them to fire tear gas shells and water cannons to scatter them.
