PARIS: Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the 2014 French Open after winning their quarter finals on Tuesday, ARY News reports.
Maria Sharapova survived a scare against Spain’s Garbine Muguruza. She lost the first set to 1-6 but made a solid comeback into the match and won the remaining two sets 7-5 and 6-1.
Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard defeated Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in a tough three set quarter final. She won the match 7-6, 2-6 and 7-5
Bouchard will play against Sharapova for a place in the final.
In the men’s singles, Serbian Novak Djokovic defeated Canadian Milos Raonic 7-5, 7-6 and 6-4 to enter the last four stage of the grand slam.
Ernests Gulbis of Latvia thrashed Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4. He will play Djokovic in the semi final of the tournament.
