ISLAMABAD: The government is going to table two bills in the National Assembly on Monday (today) to extend tenure of Military Courts for two years.

Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday said that amendments to the already tabled Constitutional Amendment Bill and Army Act Amendment Bill will be discussed in the National Assembly  on Monday to extend tenure of military courts, in the light of the  consensus arrived in the parliamentary leaders meeting on March 16.

The government after intensive consultations with other political parties achieved consensus for extension after expiry of the military courts’ tenure in January this year.

The bill will be tabled in Senate after passage from the National Assembly.

The House will discuss the consensus bills and the same will be put to vote on Tuesday, as discussed by Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq with the parliamentary leaders.

Dar said that in the said meeting of parliamentary leaders it was also agreed to set up a parliamentary committee on national security with parliamentary leaders of National Assembly and Senate as its members.  Accordingly a Resolution in this regard will also be moved in the National Assembly on Monday, the minister said.

In this backdrop, the parliamentary party meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-N members of NA and Senate which was earlier scheduled for Monday,  would now be held on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he added.

The military courts were established after the tragic incident of Army Public School attack in 2014. These courts have executed dozens of terrorists so far.
