KARACHI: At least two people died and eight others were wounded when a three-storey residential building collapsed in the neighborhood of Liaqatabad late Monday night, ARY News reported.
Rescue officials said a dilapidated, residential building came down in the Liaqatabad area, leaving at least two residents dead while eight others injured. The rescue operation is underway with fears there may be more residents still trapped under the debris, they said.
Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra and district central’s deputy commissioner Fareeduddin Mustafa reached the spot to supervise rescue operations.
Mustafa confirmed that two residents were killed while eight others injured in the incident and added the rescue operations underway for some residents are still feared trapped under the rubble. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, he added.
A witness, resident of the area, recounted that the building caved in at around 2:30 am with a bang. She said the building was in a dilapidated condition where several families were housed.
