ISLAMABAD: In a reaction to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s recent appearance before a NAB team in connection with an investigation into alleged irregularities in Ashiana Housing Scheme, PTI chief Imran Khan on Tuesday claimed the housing scam is the tip of the iceberg.

In a statement on his official Twitter account, Khan said: “Shahbaz Sharif’s Ashiana housing scam is tip of iceberg.”

He said much bigger scams would be uncovered once the NAB started a probe into “sasti roti, metros, and orange train, where the contract has been kept under wraps, massive kickbacks in Punjab road construction contracts, Danish schools etc.”“Why is SS [Shahbaz Sharif] crying about victimisation already? I faced probe for one year in the SC despite never holding any public office so why is SS attacking NAB? If he is clean he should face all charges like I did and disprove them,” he tweeted. He said: “Both NS [Nawaz Sharif] & daughter know they will be convicted so they are attacking SC & NAB esp with NAB supplementary ref on JIT report’s conclusion that Maryam is beneficial owner of the 4 Mayfair apartments & she gave fake documents to SC to cover this up. Forgery another crime committed.”

On Monday, a combined investigation team (CIT) of the NAB questioned Shahbaz Sharif for allegedly misusing his authority to award the contract of Ashiana Housing Scheme project to a company but the successful bidder.

He has been accused of illegally meddling in the affairs of the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) that caused over Rs1 billion loss to the national exchequer.
