KARACHI: Suspended SSP Rao Anwar and other accused in the extrajudicial killing case of Naqeebullah Mehsud, appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) here, on Monday, where a new prosecutor has been appointed in the case.
Former prosecutor of the case Ali Raza has exempted himself from pleading the case after receiving threats, ARY News reported.
Sindh law department has appointed Nazeer Bhangora as the new prosecutor in the case.
The court reserved its verdict over the prosecution objections related to the transfer of accused SSP Rao Anwar to sub jail.
The court adjourned hearing of the case till June 6.
The counsels will present their arguments before the court on the bail plea of Rao Anwar in the next hearing of the case.
The bail plea of another accused in the case DSP Qamar Ahmed was also filed in the court in a previous hearing.
The bail petitions of three other accused Yasin, Supurd Hussain and Khizar Hayat, have also been submitted in the court.
On January 13, than SSP Malir Rao Anwar had claimed to have shot dead four members of the defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an encounter near Shah Latif Town in Karachi.
Family members of one of the killed terror suspects, Naqeebullah Mehsud, alleged that he was killed in a fake encounter by police, triggering widespread public outrage.
Afterwards, a three-member inquiry committee, tasked to look into the allegations, termed the encounter as staged one and recommended action against Anwar and his other police colleagues involved in the incident.
