The dyke was destroyed due to mounting pressure of floodwater. It was suggested that blowing the dykes may help save the city from a disaster.
Multan was disconnected from neighboring cities due to the floods in the region. The villages along the way of the floods were already vacated earlier.
However, some of the citizens are not willing to leave their homes in order to protect their houses and cattles.
Earlier, Head Mohammadwala protective dyke along river Chenab was also blown up to divert the floodwater from historical city.
