ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday said war was not an option for resolving issues between two nuclear-armed neighbours, ARY News reported.

“There is no military solution. The only solution is dialogue,” he said while talking to a foreign news channel about relations between Pakistan and India.

“(We are) two neighbours with outstanding issues.. (We are) atomic powers. How do you fix things,” he wondered.

To a query about relationship between Pakistan and the United States, he said we wanted the US to be a friend to Pakistan.

“We recognise that the US is an important global power and they will continue to be so militarily, technologically and economically in the foreseeable future,” he said.

He said the US was looking at different options and it was looking at new friends in the region.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan also had friends who were very consistent and very valuable and China was one of them.

To a query regarding the Soviet-Afghan war, he said they (the USA) were helping their own country. They were helping overcome a situation which was not a their creation, he said.

Giving a cue on upbringing of Taliban in the region, Qureshi asked, “Who were these people? Who supported them? Who trained them?”

“We forget history… and at a time we overlook … friends change.

“People that you support(ed)… some of the people were called extremists,” he said.

The FM asked, “Weren’t they (Taliban) invited to the US? Weren’t they entertained in the White House?”
