Hafiz Saeed sends defamation notice to Khawaja Asif

LAHORE: Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed has sent a defamation notice to Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif for his remarks at the Asia Society forum in New York earlier this week.

The legal notice submitted by advocate A.K. Dogar has demanded the foreign minister to apologize within two weeks or they will approach the courts.

The notice said that Khawaja Asif leveled baseless allegation against Hafiz Saeed which has not only harmed his reputation and hurt the feelings of patriotic citizens of Pakistan. Therefore, it is necessary that he apologizes for his actions within two weeks.

Speaking to media, Dogar said the Khawaja Asif’s statement has harmed the image and reputation of Pakistan. He said that the foreign minister’s statement echoed the accusations which have been leveled by India and the United States.

He has that Hafiz Saeed is respected as a deeply religious and devout Muslim and has served the nation indiscriminately.

The notice accuses Asif of an absolute lie and falsehood that Hafiz Saeed is one of those persons who had been the “darlings” of Americans and had been dining and wining in the White House.

He said that Hafiz Saeed has been near the White House, not to speak of wined and dined. It is shocking that that foreign minister has accused Hafiz Saeed of taking wine which is higly deplorable.

He said the a defamatory statement punishable under Section 500 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He said that remarks proves that Khawja Asif has no control over his statements.
