Sindh CM offers condolences to family of infant killed by police in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday visited the home of Ahsan, a 19-month-old boy who was reportedly killed by a bullet fired from a police weapon and offered condolences to the father of the infant.

Expressing his grief, the chief minister said that the incident was very painful for him and assured the parents of justice. He further said that the incident happened due to lack of profession training to police personnel.

The chief minister said that he sought a comprehensive report about the incident and added that he would take swift action over the report. He said that the provincial government would provide justice to the bereaved family. The chief minister said that he asked the family to lodge FIR as per their wish.

Earlier in the day, the Sachal police have registered an FIR of the killing of an infant boy in an alleged shootout between policemen and suspected robbers on main University Road.

According to the police, the case has been registered against unknown persons on the complaint of the victim child’s father Kashif on charges of attempted and unintentional murder.

The 19-month-old boy, Ahsan was traveling along with his family in a rickshaw when a bullet hit him near Safoora roundabout, according to the content of the FIR.

The victim’s father stated he saw four policemen on bikes firing their guns. The minor boy was taken to a nearby hospital where doctor pronounced him to be dead, he said.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Kashif said the FIR of his son’s murder was not registered as per his wishes. He alleged that he was summoned to the police station where he was asked to sign the FIR.
